The University of South Dakota has announced the recipients of three graduate assistantships and scholarships funded by Davenport Evans. The firm funds these awards to recognize excellence in legal scholarship and to provide a stipend to assist law students in their graduate work.
This year’s recipients are:
Steven Iverson – Deming Smith Memorial Endowment
Steven Iverson, Rapid City, is a second-year law student who serves as a research assistant to Professor Frank Pommersheim. He is a graduate of South Dakota State University. Iverson is a member of the Native American Law Student Association. In addition to earning his law degree, Smith is pursuing a master’s degree in Environmental Law and Policy from the Vermont Law School.
Morgan Brekke – Ellsworth E. Evans Memorial Endowment
Morgan Brekke, Sioux Falls, is a third-year law student and is serving in her second year as a graduate assistant for Professor Chris Hutton. She is a graduate of the University of South Dakota. Brekke has served as president of the Moot Court board and participated in trial team. Upon graduation, she will be clerking for Chief Justice Gilbertson of the South Dakota Supreme Court.
Kyle Hanson – Michael E. Pieplow Scholarship
Kyle Hanson, Elk Point, is a first-year law student. He is a graduate of South Dakota State University. Hanson is a member of Delta Theta Phi and the American Bar Association and has participated in two American Dispute Resolution local tournaments.
