On September 26, 2014 Davenport Evans partner P. Daniel Donohue, a 1967 graduate of O’Gorman High School, was inducted into the High School’s Alumni Hall of Fame for Excellence in Service. O’Gorman, a four year Catholic high school with a current enrollment of 714 students, was founded in 1961 to replace Cathedral High School. It is a part of Sioux Falls Catholic Schools, an integrated school system which educates 2,651 Catholic and non-Catholic students from the Sioux Falls area.

The following biography appeared in the program for the O’Gorman Alumni Hall of Fame induction ceremony, September 26, 2014.

Dan has been an active member of Christ the King Parish, serving as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, and Parish Council member and more recently has been a member of St. Mary Parish. As a member of an exploratory committee he worked with the bishop and pastors of the Sioux Falls parishes to consolidate the Sioux Falls Catholic Schools and then served on the system’s Development Committee for several years. With Bishop Dudley’s approval, that Committee started the Sioux Falls Catholic Schools (“SFCS”) Annual Fund Drive. Dan served on the SFCS Foundation Board of Directors for several years and as its President in 1988.

Dan’s focus on improving opportunities for children led him to serve on the Board of Directors and as President of various non-profit organizations, including Junior Achievement, Sioux Council, Inc. (Boy Scouts of America), Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sioux Falls, Children’s Care Foundation, and Dakota Gold Soccer Club USA. He has also served on the Board of Directors of Children’s Care Hospital and School, Sanford (formerly Sioux Valley Hospital) Foundation, and the Girls Club of Sioux Falls, Inc. Dan credits the Presentation Sisters at St. Mary’s School and his parents for instilling in him the desire to be of service to others. Dan’s commitment to serve has continued during his professional career as a lawyer. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, currently serving on the College’s Board of Regents, and the American College of Real Estate Lawyers. He has lectured on various trust, estate planning, and trust company issues locally and across the country. He currently serves South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard as a member of the Governor’s Task Force on Trust Administration Review and Reform.

Although involvement with non-profit organizations providing services and opportunities to children has played an important part of Dan’s life, he is most encouraged by and proud of his wife, Laurie, and his daughters, who continue to share his passion for helping children.
