On November 6, Davenport Evans lawyers began their day at the Minnesota Avenue Sioux Falls Hy-Vee store, loading their carts with 75 frozen turkeys destined for Thanksgiving tables across the Sioux Empire. The donation was part of the Davenport Evans “Giving Back” campaign commemorating the firm’s 75th Anniversary, and was given to help Feeding South Dakota launch their annual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive.

In addition to turkeys, in eastern South Dakota, Feeding South Dakota is also gathering donations of boxed mashed potatoes, gravy mixes, canned vegetables, and pies to create a traditional meal for families in need.  Turkeys will be collected at all three food bank sites across the state: Sioux Falls, Pierre, and Rapid City as well as the Sioux Falls Food Pantry. Thanksgiving meal fixings will be collected in Sioux Falls at the food bank and at the pantry. The food pantry serves an estimated 400 families a week between now and the Thanksgiving holiday.

The food pantry is hoping to receive 2,000 turkeys this year, and Davenport Evans is pleased to be able to help the organization kick-start their annual Thanksgiving food drive. “Being part of the Sioux Falls community has been vital to the 75 year history of our firm,” stated Davenport Evans partner Bob Hayes, “Nothing could be more appropriate than giving back to that community as we celebrate our 75th Anniversary. Providing food for distribution at Thanksgiving through Feeding South Dakota is one of the most fulfilling of the twelve projects we’ve undertaken this year as a part of that celebration.”

“We are grateful for Davenport Evans willingness to kickoff the annual turkey drive this year,” said Matt Gassen, Executive Director of Feeding South Dakota.  “Because of their generous donation, 75 struggling families in our community will be able to enjoy a meal together this Thanksgiving.”
