Jean H. Bender presented to two area business groups in January on Employment Law matters.

On January 15 she presented, “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly – Avoiding Employment Discrimination Claims,” to the Brookings chapter of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM.) In this presentation, Bender discussed a variety of practical ways that business owners, supervisors and HR professionals can avoid discrimination and wrongful termination claims.

On January 16, Bender presented the webinar, “FRIEND OR FOE: Is Your Employee Handbook Doing More Harm than Good?” in conjunction with Howalt University. In this webinar, Bender provided practical tips to draft employee handbooks that clearly inform managers and employees of the employer’s policies and procedures, guide consistent management practices, and prevent legal exposure. She also discussed the legal importance of having policies and procedures that are current, compliant with applicable law, thorough, and consistently followed.
