Davenport, Evans, Hurwitz & Smith, LLP is pleased to announce the addition of a new attorney, Sydney P. Boots, to the firm.
Sydney Boots is a member of the Davenport Evans litigation section. His practice includes a wide variety of civil litigation.
Claiming two hometowns, Sydney was born and raised for several years in Sioux Falls before moving to Yankton and graduating from Yankton High School. He received a B.A. from the University of Sioux Falls in 2019, and a J.D. from the University of South Dakota Knudson School of Law in 2023.
During law school, Sydney was the Vice President of the Moot Court Board, where he competed in four national moot court competitions and organized the school’s intramural competition. He also served as the President of the R.D. Hurd Pro Bono Society and was an admissions ambassador. He spent both of his summers gaining litigation experience in Sioux Falls, interning at East River Legal Services and the Minnehaha County Public Defender’s Office.
Sydney received the Dean’s Leadership Award for Service, which was awarded to two students of his class who best represented the virtue of servitude. He received the Access to Justice Pro Bono Award, which was awarded for achieving over fifty hours of pro bono work during school, where he volunteered over four hundred and fifty hours. He was also selected as a member of the Order of the Barristers, a national organization of law students and lawyers who display outstanding trial advocacy, oral advocacy, and brief writing.
Sydney served as a law clerk for the Second Judicial Circuit Court of South Dakota from 2023 to 2024. Stationed in Sioux Falls, he assisted twelve circuit judges on various stages of criminal and civil litigation, including legal research and drafting preparatory memoranda and proposed decisions.
