Davenport Evans lawyers and staff continued the firm’s annual holiday tradition of volunteering at The Banquet, a feeding ministry, in December. They also brought in some live music to cheer guests as children visited Santa and selected holiday toys. Led by Banquet Board member and Davenport Evans lawyer Eric Schulte, the group of around 30 volunteers served at The Banquet West location at the W. H. Lyons Fairgrounds.

The Banquet West location began serving meals in 2014 to provide support for those that may struggle to reach the downtown area. Twice each week, scores of volunteers prepare hot meals off-site and then load, move, and unload the meals at the Nordstrom Johnson Building at the W.H. Lyons Fairgounds, setting up a dining hall and serving the meals for over 200 in a warehouse facility that was never designed for that purpose. In fact, 15,847 meals were served at The Banquet West location last year despite no cooking facilities, no food storage, and no preparation space.

The Nordstrom Johnson Building is a temporary facility allowing service while funds are raised for a permanent location to be built at Marion Road and 5th Street. This location will provide for families close to Hayward Elementary school, where working families are struggling to provide food for their own. The Banquet West will have a simple 7,000 square foot building that will house a dining room, kitchen, indoor waiting area, and restrooms.
Davenport Evans has made support for The Banquet an important part of our annual holiday tradition. Please consider how you might support The Banquet and other non-profits in your community.
