DEHS Banquet ServersDavenport Evans lawyers and staff continued the firm’s annual holiday tradition of volunteering at The Banquet, a feeding ministry, in December. Led by Banquet Board member and Davenport Evans lawyer Eric Schulte, the group of volunteers served at The Banquet West location at the W. H. Lyons Fairgrounds.

The Banquet West location began serving meals in 2014 to provide support for those that may struggle to reach the downtown area. Twice each week, scores of volunteers prepare hot meals off-site and then load, move, and unload the meals at the Nordstrom Johnson Building at the W.H. Lyons Fairgounds, setting up a dining hall and serving the meals for over 200 in a warehouse facility that was never designed for that purpose. In fact, 15,847 meals were served at The Banquet West location last year despite no cooking facilities, no food storage, and no preparation space.

The Nordstrom Johnson Building is a temporary facility allowing service while a permanent location is built at Marion Road and 5th Street. The Banquet West will open March 9 serving five nights a week, and will provide for families close to Hayward Elementary school. The Banquet West will have a simple 7,000 square foot building that will house a dining room, kitchen, indoor waiting area, and restrooms. Groups may sign up now and individuals who want to serve as needed may join the Banquet Angels text service by texting Angels to 605-413-1971. For questions on serving a meal or volunteering, call 605-335-7066 or email [email protected].
