    Davenport Evans has celebrated its 75th Anniversary in 2014 with a year-long “Giving Back” campaign. As part of the campaign, Davenport Evans selected 12 local non-profits, one representing each month of the year, and donated 75 items to each from their wish-lists. New Year’s Eve marked the final gift in this year-long campaign, 75 pillows to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Dakota.

  • The CFPB’S Proposed Policy On No Action Letters: Will Anyone Use It?

    On October 8, 2014, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau published a proposed policy on the issuance of no-action letters. Under the policy the CFPB may issue NALs “to specific applicants in instances involving innovative financial products or services that promise substantial consumer benefit where there is substantial uncertainty” about how the CFPB may apply governing laws or regulations. The food pantry provides full Thanksgiving dinner groceries and other staples to an estimated 400 families a week between now and the Thanksgiving holiday.     When the CARD Act was signed into law in May 2009, Congress intended to make rates and fees associated with credit cards more transparent so consumers could compare different cards and make an informed decision about selecting a particular card product. Market research indicates, however, that consumers are more likely to select a card product based upon rewards programs. This article provides examples of rewards program practices likely to attract heightened scrutiny, and discusses the need for banks to carefully evaluate all rewards program materials to assess whether any aspect of the program is consistently problematic for consumers.
